Tasi

After Bali it was onto Tasmania.  We had about a week there to drive around and explore the whole island, with Anne as our trusty driver!  We lived/slept in our lil rental car for the first couple days, driving through Queenstown, Launceston and hiking through the many National Parks (Bay of Fires, Mt Field, Cradle Mountain, Wineglass Bay).  It was all very beautiful and inspiring.  The first night was slept in the car it was the coldest night of my life.  However we were parked in the middle of nowhere, on our way to Queenstown, and we were able to see so many stars!  I've never seen so many before!  And they were so bright!  Amazing.
The next day we got to Queenstown which was a complete ghost town.  Kind of creepy, but also cool.  It looked like what I imagine towns to look like after the gold rush.  Also as we drove during the day, next to an abandoned railroad track, we were accompanied by too many dead Tasmanian devils :(  Roadkill.  Apparently they are quite vicious animals so we were terrified to go outside of the car since they were clearly everywhere, but it was also sad that there were so many dead ones.  At night when we drove it was quite stressful (especially for the driver) because there were so many animals that would jump out into the road!  And, as your probably know, if you hit a kangaroo it's not just bad for the kangaroo, those things can be huge and destroy you! or at least your car.  Luckily, we managed to not hit anything during our drives.
Our second night in the car was not as cold because we were parked at the beach now, and not on a mountain.  Waking up to the spectacular sunrise through the windshield was perfect.   After we got back from our hiking adventures, we stayed with Anne's friend's Maddi, who lives with her lil baby boy in Hobart, the biggest city in Tasi.  We went to Port Arthur with them and also to the MONA, Museum of Old and New Art, where we saw lots of cool art installations.
