Lembongan

Lembongan is much less touristy/city-like than Bali.  We stayed in a beach hut/room right next to Sarah's room.  The ocean was right outside.  The Australian's Karen and Garrie rented a sweet house with a pool nearby that we hung out at a lot.  The ocean was also right outside their gate.  We spent a fantastic day there swimming in the pool and playing with the kids.  Mushroom milkshakes.  In the evenings we went and hung out at the pool house where we drank pina coladas and beers and played pool with Sarah and her friends.  Everyone was really cool.  One of the days we went to a big ceremony where they act out a show in these giant costumes (see below).  The two guys in charge start the ceremony by ripping off the head of a baby chicken !  Just like that !  And at the end of the ceremony someone (or a few people) get taken over by a spirit and they go into this crazy trance; it was fascinating to watch.  Another day we went snorkeling with her friends, and we wanted to surf, but there were no waves.  While in Australia Anne and I took surf lessons, so we were eager to put our skills to practice, but, alas.  Can't have everything.  Life is beautiful in Lembongan.
