BALI

After Perth, it was onto Bali.  Anne's good friend Sarah lives there half the year (the other half in Australia) and she was lovely enough to be our guide for the week.  She took us to Lembongan for  half the time, which is the island where she lives and surfs (which will be the next post), and the other days we were in Bali.  From there, we  drove to an artist village, Ubud, in the mountains and had lunch at a delicious restaurant that has the best view in Bali.  However, as you'll see from the picture, we didn't get to see the view.  We also hung out with her Australian friends Garrie and Karen and their 3 little girls Charlie, Isabella and the baby.  The most adorable little girls.  They own a little restaurant on the beach somewhere on the island and we went there one night to eat.  There was a huge storm that was awesome to watch.  We stayed in a hotel that was expensive for Bali, but still super cheap.  We went out most nights to profit from the crazy night life.  Everyone stays out till 5, there are lots of dance clubs and motorbike rides home.  Terrifying.  We also went to the beaches on Bali, but they are sadly filled with trash.  The island has this je ne sais quoi feel to it.  I can say it's one of my favorite places I've been.  The food is delicious, the people seem happy and there is so much green !  The trees are so cool, and the offerings that each Hindu family leaves out each morning for the Gods add to the ambiance.  The weather was also nice and hot, even when it was raining, which I like much better than the cold.
